A retail strip out involves the systematic removal of interior fixtures, fittings, and non-structural elements from a retail space in preparation for renovation, refurbishment, or change of use.

Strip Outs For Retail

Stredder Construction execute soft strip outs and full demolition strip outs for retail spaces including: shopping stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, department stores, and outlet stores.

A soft strip out focuses on carefully dismantling interior elements while preserving the integrity of the building’s structure. Soft strip outs involve the strategic removal of fixtures, fittings, and non-load-bearing walls, leaving the building’s structural elements intact. This may include removing:

  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Ceilings
  • Security systems
  • Partitioning
  • Flooring coverings
  • HVAC components
  • Shelving units

The Retail Strip Out Process

Initial Assessment: The first step of the process is to undertake an initial assessment and survey at your retail outlet. This includes evaluating the layout, existing fixtures, and any specific requirements outlined by the client.

Planning and Preparation: Based on the assessment undertaken by Stredder Construction, we will then develop a customised plan for your tailored strip out plan. Within this stage, we’ll ensure all safety measures are in place to ensure a smooth and efficient operation. Preparation also involves protecting the surrounding areas.

Selective Demolition: The third stage of the process focuses on selective demolition. This involves removing interior elements and dismantling elements including: counters, non-load bearing walls, display cases, shelving units, and more.

Fixture and Fitting Removal: As and when requested to do so, Stredder Construction can also undertake fixture and fitting removal. This may include the removal of the following elements: electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures, and other other non-structural components.

Waste Management: All materials and fixtures removed during the strip out process will be responsibly disposed of by our 5-star-rated team. We conduct waste management in accordance with local regulations and environmental standards.

When Are Retail Strip Outs Required?

There are a number of reasons that retail strip outs may be required at your store or outlet.

Stredder Construction are frequently requested to undertake retail strip outs for the following reasons:

Renovation or Refurbishment: If you’re seeking to renovate or refurbish your existing retail space, a strip out can often be beneficial as it creates a clean slate for the installation of new ideas, elements, and concepts. Stripping your retail space to a blank canvas helps to create a new layout or design without any limitations.

Preparing for Sale or Lease: Retail strip outs are also requested when the owner is preparing for sale or lease. Stripping your retail outlet, and removing outdated or unsightly elements, can help to enhance its market appeal. New buyers or tenants will have a blank canvas to easily incorporate their own brand image.

Change of Use: Looking to convert your current retail into space into a restaurant, office, or another type of commercial space? If so, it’s likely that a strip out is required. Here, we can remove fixtures and fixtures that have been specifically installed for the purpose of retail. Strip out services ensure that the space is suitable for its new intended use.
